Momento Coffee House
The wait is over.
Momento Coffee House opened up this week. The “opening soon” signs that have teased passer byers for the last while have finally come down, and they are ready for business.
Behold!
Intelligentsia Coffee.
There are 2 brewing methods for coffee: Pour over, or syphon. Every cup is made fresh (yes!) The syphon bar is done with 4 halogen burners, and looks great as usual. No matter if it’s your first time seeing it, or your thousandth, it’s always fun to watch someone work a syphon. It’s set up in a way so that you can do just that, with just a sheet of glass standing between you and the barista.
Over on the espresso side of things, they have 4 groups of power via the La Marzocco espresso machine.
The space is small and cozy, with lots of dark reds and blacks, with some interesting objects scattered throughout.
How sweet it is to see another shop doing coffee fresh by the cup. We met the owner Rick last week at a cupping and he seemed really passionate about doing everything right. My experience confirmed that.

Just got back from there, had a syphon and a pour over – both great but the syphon took the cake for me. Free parking outside too!

Nice! Next time I’m on the mainland I’ll definitely have to drop by. I love the concept of being able to sit at the bar and watch the siphons at work. We have a halogen bar set to go in at our new shop, which will hopefully be open just before the western regionals.

Consistency (or consistently good, I should say) is the hallmark of a great coffee bar. I’ve been to Momento 3 times in the past 2 weeks and I must say they’re pretty consistent. I haven’t had a godshot yet but they’ve all been pretty decent.
I just wish they got some other beans instead of Intelligentsia… there’s already another cafe that serves Intelligentsia coffee nearby (Cafe In).
