Uva Wine Bar

Espresso + Wine.
I finally made it down to uva wine bar last week with some friends after having heard so much about it, and it was well worth it.
It’s on the corner of Seymour and Smithe, just a block below Granville St.’s hustle and bustle, and their motto is “espresso by day, wine by night.” You can still get espresso at night though, so don’t worry about that. As a matter of fact, they are open until 1:45am, and offer espresso straight through until close. So long midnight espresso cravings.

They have a 2 group synesso with 2 anfims, and serve up 49th parallel. Now everyone knows getting coffee from any type of restaurant or bar is pretty much a guaranteed write off, but midway through our wine (I had a chianti corelli senesi toscany 2005) I noticed one of the bartender’s pulling what looked like solo macchiatos from a distance – but more importantly he kept adjusting the temperature and throwing out shots, a definite good sign.
So I ordered one.

And it was good.

Very good, in fact.

Turns out the guy who made it (Jonathon) works full time at the Elysian Room, and Uva is his ‘other’ job. Go figure.

Definitely worth a stop by for wine or coffee if you find yourself down there. The inside is pretty cool, and the whole atmosphere makes for a good social outing in general.

Uva.

strange their website claims to have “1 of only 2 in BC” in reference to their Synesso… I could of sworn….
@Jesse
Yea… I read that too. Their Synesso has the black steam wand handle, so I think it may be the newest edition that has separate pumps for each group head which allows you to pre-infuse both groups whenever you want, (normally you can only do one at a time.) but even if that is the case that doesn’t really justify that statement.
I like that you included a shot of the blue light for Zack. haha!
A barista named Chris was making some of the better capps I’ve seen around Van when I was back over Christmas. Cibo next door was good Italian as well.
love it!!! we should make a trip there sometime soon!
Yes! Uva is one of the very few restaurants you can trust with making a good coffee and espresso. Sebastien, Johnathan, and Christopher are very serious (in a good way) about their coffee, not to mention their wine and cocktails.
